More scandal in the Boston Church

FROM THE PEW – The Catholic Action League (CAL) has uncovered another scandal in the Boston Archdiocese.  Catholic Caritas Christi hospitals – which is under the supervision of he archdiocese, has entered into a joint venture with Centene Corporation to take over a state subsidized health program.

That program requires coverage for abortion, sterilization, and contraception.

But that’s not all.  CAL is now reporting that five of the nine members of the “Catholic” board of directors of Caritas have been heavy donors to pro-abortion politicians in Massachusetts.  The contributions were uncovered by going through FEC records for the board members.

Caritas Chairman James Karam contributed over $19,000 to the campaigns of Barrack Obama, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Deval Patrick (Mass. Gov.), Al Gore, and Barney Frank, among others.

Board members Joseph Feitelberg, Neil Finnegan, and John Garvey (who is, incidentally the Dean of the Jesuit Boston College’s school of law), and Ruben Kin-Shaw also made similar contributions.

“Cardinal O’Malley can stop this today with one word,” said Judie Brown, president of the American Life League. ”We beg Cardinal O’Malley and the Boston archdiocese to prevent yet another scandal by providing a clear defense of Catholic moral teaching, rather than a pact driven far more by financial interests than fidelity to the Catholic faith.”

We would hope that the good cardinal will follow Ms. Brown’s suggestion.  How many more times do we have to watch as the bishops fiddle while the Church’s moral authority burns?  Unfortunately, these outrages from the hierarchy are becoming all too common.  Can we not demand that our bishops are faithful to the Church’s magisterium as they call us to be?

Register you concern:

His Eminence Sean Cardinal O’Malley, Archbishop of Boston, The Pastoral Center, 66 Brooks Drive, Braintree, MA 02184.  There is an e-mail form at the archdiocese’s website: http://www.bostoncatholic.org/Default.aspx

Remind the good cardinal that there is a reason Cardinal Law is no longer around.
